ELIGIBLE PROGRAMS.


An eligible program is one that meets the following standards:

  • It requires graduation from grade twelve or equivalent as a pre-requisite for admission;

  • It leads to a certificate, diploma or degree;

  • It is a direct transfer for full credit to another recognized institution; and

  • The institution is certified for post-secondary education by a provincial, state or national government.

The definition of a post-secondary program used by Knowledge First Foundation has been expanded within the Plans offered by Knowledge First Financial to include programs taken in connection with the duties of an office or employment while the student is receiving income from that office or employment, subject to the provisions of the Income Tax Act (Canada). 

Classic and Family Group Plans require:

  • A minimum 2-year program; and

  • Full-time attendance through 2nd, 3rd and 4th academic years.

Classic Plans for students studying in Quebec require:

  • A minimum 2-year program; and 

  • Full-time attendance in the 3rd academic year of a CEGEP program; or

  • Full-time attendance in a 90 credit Quebec University degree program

Family Group Plans for students studying in Quebec require:

  • A minimum 2-year program; and

  • Full-time attendance in the 2nd academic year of a CEGEP program; or

  • Full-time attendance in a 90 credit Quebec university degree program

Quebec Classic Plans require:

  • A minimum 2-year program; and

  • Full-time attendance through 2nd academic year of a CEGEP program; or

  • Full-time attendance in a 90 credit Quebec University degree program

Quebec Classic Plans for students studying outside Quebec require:

  • A minimum 2-year program; and

  • Full-time attendance through 2nd, 3rd and 4th academic years (DEC not complete); or

  • Full-time attendance in a 90 credit University degree program

Family Single Student Plans require:

  • Full or part-time program of not less than 3 consecutive weeks at 10 hours per week (13 weeks outside of Canada); or

  • To comply with the Income Tax Act, we must limit the amount that is paid to a student to $5,000.00 unless the student has completed a minimum of 13 consecutive weeks in a full or part-time qualifying educational program in the 12-month period before the payment is made.

A student may also qualify for a payment if they are enrolled in a program at a post-secondary institution requiring a minimum of 12 hours per month of instruction time for at least 3 consecutive weeks (13 weeks outside of Canada) provided that:

  • the amount that is paid to a student attending such a program is limited to $2,500 as required under the Income Tax Act; and  
  •  the student is at least 16 years of age at the time they are attending the program
