WHY YOU NEED A SOCIAL INSURANCE NUMBER.
A Social Insurance Number (SIN) is required by the Canadian government to register your Education Savings Plan. Only Registered Education Savings Plans are eligible for special tax exemptions and government grants (including the Canada Education Savings Grant and Canada Learning Bond).
It’s a great idea to complete this simple paperwork as soon as you open your plan.
To get a SIN:
- In some cases, you may be able to apply directly online at http://www.servicecanada.gc.ca/eng/sc/sin/index.shtml
- Visit a Service Canada Centre in person with the completed documents or return them by mail.
For further assistance, you can have a Knowledge First Financial Sales Representative call you.
