How to Change an RESP Subscriber
There are all kinds of reasons to change the subscriber of an RESP. Parents might separate or divorce, single parents may meet new partners or, sadly, the original subscriber might pass away. Whatever the reason, rest assured that we’ll help you through the process.
You can add a joint subscriber to your plan at any time. However, that person must be your spouse or common-law partner. In the case of divorce or separation, you can remove a joint subscriber if both agree to that decision or you can continue to be joint subscribers.
If you pass away, any individual can become the subscriber, including your spouse, your child’s guardian or your estate.
Requests to change the subscriber of your RESP must be made to us in writing and accompanied by the appropriate paperwork.
